212 - Azaelia Banks

Hilary changed my opinion of this song on New Year’s Eve while we were decorating for the party. I first heard it on Pitchfork, which for some reason always gets my back up because even though their writers have some serious chops, their whole brand’s a little too freaky for me. They’re like the unfriendly NPR or Dov Charney.

Anyways, this song is gritty and filthy (and undeniably polished - which is interesting in itself) and though it should remind me of every Skins episode ever, it just brings me back to a party I had in high school when everyone was calling Ryan ”Fish Boy” because he was wearing a cape of fish fabric and dancing the way we’ve known him to dance ever since - stunningly. I don’t even know if it really ever happened, or if it’s an urban legend. This song was made for you to dance to, Ryan.

I should point out that I still read Pitchfork, which makes me a hypocrite.
